KATIE SHOENFELT

Mary Katherine “Katie” Shoenfelt is a Baton Rouge native and experienced trial attorney with over 17 years of litigation experience. She is the founder of Shoenfelt Law Firm, LLC, where she represents clients in family law and personal injury matters in Baton Rouge and throughout South Louisiana.

As a Baton Rouge family lawyer, Katie handles a wide range of complex and high-stakes domestic matters, including divorce, child custody disputes, child support, and community property divisions. She is known for being resourceful, diplomatic, and strategic, helping clients navigate emotionally charged situations while protecting their legal and financial interests.

Katie began her legal career working alongside her father, Oscar Shoenfelt, III, a respected Baton Rouge trial attorney with more than 40 years of experience. There, she developed a strong foundation in litigation, handling car accident and personal injury cases, as well as medical malpractice matters, before expanding her practice to focus heavily on family law. Over the course of her career, Katie has represented clients in numerous bench and jury trials and has successfully handled appeals before the Louisiana First and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal. She has also practiced with several established Baton Rouge law firms and previously served as a managing partner of Carleton Shoenfelt & Chapman, LLC for 6 years before opening her own practice in 2024.

Katie is a recognized leader in Louisiana family law. She currently serves on the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Family Law Section Council and previously held leadership roles as Chair (2022–2024), Vice Chair (2019–2022), and Secretary (2017–2019). She also served on the Legislative Child Support Review Committee for the 2024 legislative session, where she helped develop proposed changes to Louisiana’s child support laws that were enacted by the legislature.

Katie earned her law degree from LSU Law School and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2009. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, cum laude, from Louisiana State University.
